GREATER SECRETS is a Beam Saber Supply Drop.  It's designed as a supplement for the mech roleplaying game Beam Saber by Austin Ramsay. Be sure to check out the hyperlink for the full rules in case you need explanations for any of the rules of the base game.  This material is an unofficial supplement and is not affiliated with Austin Ramsay.

GREATER SECRETS has been co-authored by Yuri Runnel and August Orion. It aims to bring elements of fantasy, horror and the strange to the world of Beam Saber. It currently consists of 12 Pilot Playbooks and rules for creating Legendary Vehicles.

The Supply Drop contains the following Playbooks:

  • THE CHARIOT:  A warrior that has been modified for battle by being permanently attached to a war machine. 
  • THE LOVERS:  A person that is bound to a great machine spirit that takes the form of their vehicle. CW: potential body horror
  • THE SUN: A weapons master and protector that wields their signature weapon with ease in order to protect those close to them.
  • THE HIEROPHANT: A religious leader empowered by their faith, exploring the place of spirituality in a mass conflict. CW: potential religious abuse
  • THE DEATH: A person capable of controlling the forces of nature, including a giant beast they’ve tamed to do their bidding.  CW: animal death and injury, disease, gore, insects
  • THE MOON: A person capable of supernatural feats who has refined them into a fine weapon.
  • THE MAGICIAN: A psychic caught between the digital and material. They can manipulate both with equal skill.
  • THE TOWER: A person brought back from the dead in order to go on a quest for vengeance against those that killed them. CW: tragic death, revenge, cycles of abuse
  • THE DEVIL: Someone bound to a terrifying entity within their vehicle to whom they can become indebted to do great feats. CW: abusive relationships
  • THE STAR: An elemental of water and ice. Steady, hard to kill and adaptable, yet still greatly different from everyone around them. CW: xenophobia, racism, alienation
  • THE STRENGTH: Become a monster hunter who puts their skills to use to support their allies with their culinary skills and keep them safe from giant monsters.
  • THE EMPEROR: The Emperor embodies a leader who serves their patron faction while using others for their own ends. CW: power abuse

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask or seek clarification, but do these class get the first ability, AND an ability of their choice?

As intended, it's just the starting ability, since they're on par with other abilities. I'm not against giving them an extra choice since I know a predetermined starting ability can make it feel like you're lacking in customizability, but I'd suggest giving playbooks that don't have a predetermined starting ability an extra choice as well in that case, so that everyone's on the same level.
